The Byng Group

Data & Analytics Intern · May – Aug 2026 · Toronto, ON

Built data systems for Byng’s subcontractor pipeline: an onboarding tracker with an LLM analysis layer (with another intern), a legacy-to-Oracle NetSuite migration, and an interactive Python/ArcGIS map used to plan a warehouse move.

Problem

Byng needs subcontractors to deliver its projects, but few who were approached finished onboarding, nobody could see where they were dropping off, and years of trade data sat in an outdated system.

What I built

  1. Onboarding pipeline

SQL + Excel, with an LLM analysis layer

Built with another intern: I set up the initial infrastructure and we developed it together. It tracks each subcontractor from first contact to signed, and an LLM layer surfaces where and why people drop off, so each month we could fix the weakest stage and measure the effect.

  2. Legacy system to Oracle NetSuite migration

    SQL

Exported the full dataset from the old system, then cleaned and validated it for the new one: standardized entries, reconciled lost records, flagged unusable data, and checked required fields.

  3. Python pipeline and interactive HTML map

    Python, ArcGIS

Cleaned and loaded the trade records into ArcGIS and generated an interactive map of every trade’s location and type, with built-in analytics. Leadership used it to plan how to split trades across two new warehouse sites.

  4. SQL audit

    SQL

Checked subcontractor backcharges against project records and surfaced over $20K in billing errors.

  5. Expansion tooling

    Excel, built from scratch

A partner and lead tracker, a data-cleaning system, and an analytics viewer for filtering trades, used by two support teams during a new-market expansion. I also helped form new trade partnerships.

Tech

  • Python
  • SQL
  • Excel
  • ArcGIS
  • HTML (interactive map)
  • LLM analysis
  • Oracle NetSuite

Result

The COO adopted the onboarding tracker department-wide. Acceptance rose from 15% to 26% while it and the monthly fixes were in use, and the audit surfaced $20K+ in billing errors.

The onboarding tracker was a joint project with another intern; the acceptance figure is the team’s result over that period.
